Bo Williams
About the Swing Machine
The traditional big band of the thirties and forties consisted of 5 saxes, 3 trombones, 4 trumpets and a full rhythm section with piano, guitar, bass and drums – 16 pieces. Bow Williams wrote arrangements and charts for reduced-size big bands, typically 3 saxes, 2 bones, two trumpets and piano, bass and drums – ten pieces (plus conductor makes for eleven.)
This album was recorded in two locations – Monterey and San Jose – and mixed in LA. Considering the size of the band, it is an extremely full sound. The vocals are divided among several artists, depending on style.
